First Karlsson clock design?
The Swinging 6 and the Peekaboo clock series for kids. This idea started by rethinking the pendulum. The moving pendulum behind the dial is the fun part of the clock. It has something surprising. Let’s think about it and check it out! And there it was… The Swinging 6 clock and the Peekaboo kids series with different animals and moving eyes...wow, that’s cool!

If you look at the future of clocks, what do you think a Karlsson clock will look like in 20 years time?


Probably there will be more merged items. Combinations

In the past 20 years it became more an interior style item, like a painting on the wall. Time is everywhere around you, on your watch, your phone and less important for just practical reasons.

This year we reintroduced the Peekaboo clock, which was designed 20 years ago. Do you remember how the design process started?

It started by the idea of Swinging 6 clock, the moving pendulum. We were looking for something new moving in the clock…lots of ideas and this came out. Funny, simple and cute at the same time.

Each clock has its own animal personality. How did you decide which animals to feature? Are there any animals that didn’t make the cut but were fun to brainstorm?

We tried several animals appealing to kids and there parents…Some worked out very well, some not. Usually because the facial expression didn't work due to the shape of the face. There are some animals that did not make the final presentation, that’s how the creative process of design works.

What kind of personality do you hope the Peekaboo clocks bring to a room?

We just like to put joy and happiness to a room with all these animals. No more no less!

How do the Peekaboo clocks fit into the Boxtel & Buijs style?

Our style is surprising and simple, refined and contemporary. Like the Peekaboo clock series.
